Plan to make Tirumala hills zero-waste region

Addressing increasing waste problem, SRM University has decided to set up a biogas plant on the Tirumala hills, Andhra Pradesh to convert it into a zero-waste region. The biogas plant will have a digester, a reaction chamber, inlet/outlet components and a drainage channel for residual waste to be directed to agricultural fields and in the initial phase, the project will involve processing 5 tonnes of waste to generate 30 metre cube of biogas a day.
